1. Bose Soundlink Revolve+ Waterproof Wireless Speaker
Bose continues to be one of the leaders in the audio technology market. It is one of the brands that audiophiles trust when it comes to high-quality audio devices. The Bose Soundlink Revolve+ Waterproof Wireless Speaker is one of its newest and advanced audio devices. The iconic feature on the Bose Soundlink Revolve+ Waterproof Wireless Speaker is its omnidirectional audio feature, which means that unlike a regular speaker whose output faces a single direction, this one can provide an audio output in 360 degrees.
We tried the Bose Soundlink Revolve+ Waterproof Wireless Speaker. Knowing that it has a bigger battery and louder set of speakers, we had high expectations of it. The Bose Soundlink Revolve+ Waterproof Wireless Speaker did not disappoint. A lot of thinking has been put on its design. Its body is fully cased in a perforated aluminum housing that tapers at the top. It is available in two amazing colors – Luxe Silver and Triple Black.
Although the Bose Soundlink Revolve+ Waterproof Wireless Speaker is bigger compared to other portable speakers, it has a ribbed handle that makes it easy to carry wherever we wanted to bring it.
The speaker was easy to control directly on the device. Its buttons comfortably sit on the top of the speaker for easy access. Turning it on and off or turning the volume up and down directly on the device is easy because all buttons are accessible at the top part.
The Bose Soundlink Revolve+ Waterproof Wireless Speaker is surrounded with rubber padding and this is not just for show. Apparently, this also adds a layer of protection to the IPX4 waterproof rating of the speaker.
When we played music on the Bose Soundlink Revolve+ Waterproof Wireless Speaker, we instantly noticed that the sound it produces is detailed and immense. Moreover, its treble hits the sweet spot and it gives a nice touch to the upper mid-range. The bass came out powerful and we made it even more powerful when we placed the speaker near a wall.
We really liked the 360-degree sound quality that it produced and found no dead sound spots, which was often the issue among 360-degree speakers. Its safe to say that the Bose Soundlink Revolve+ Waterproof Wireless Speaker gives the most that you can get from an omnidirectional speaker.
We were impressed by the Bose Soundlink Revolve+ Waterproof Wireless Speaker’s massive battery. We used it for more than 16 hours straight at normal volume before it gave out on us. Its battery life may be a little shorter if it was always on full volume but this running time is by far impressive.
Overall, the Bose Soundlink Revolve+ Waterproof Wireless Speaker is one of the most good-looking omnidirectional speakers we have seen. It is extremely portable that was a sweetheart when we brought it on road trips. Sound quality on this speaker is topnotch and its battery life is really amazing. It is also water-resistant, as we have proven when we brought it to the beach. Although the Bose Soundlink Revolve+ Waterproof Wireless Speaker is not really cheap, you get the most from the price you pay for it.
360-degree speaker with loud bass and long battery life
- Amazing design
- Topnotch sound quality
- Impressive 360-degree audio output
- Long battery life
- Sound can be harsh at top end
2. JBL Flip 4 Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker
One of the most popular speakers in the market is the JBL Flip series. One of the top reasons why it is a popular speaker of choice is that because it delivers decent sound for a reasonable price. We tried the JBL Flip 4 Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker to see if it can deliver the sound quality we like and if it is truly a reliable waterproof speaker.
On a quick look, there is no big difference between the JBL Flip 4 Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker and its predecessor. It still has the same ribbed housing surrounding the entire speaker set. The only design change we have noticed is that the Phone Button was transformed into a more appropriate triangle shape like the Play/Pause Button. In terms of functionality, the step forward with the JBL Flip 4 Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker is its waterproof capability. The JBL Flip 4 Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker has an IPX7 waterproof rating so we were pretty confident about bringing it to the beach and letting it get splashed on.
The IPX7 waterproof rating on the JBL Flip 4 Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker means that it can be submerged to up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes or less and it will still work. Moreover, this rating means that the speaker is also dust-proof, dirt-proof, and sand-proof. Therefore, it is a great audio buddy when hanging out with friends at the beach.
In terms of sound quality, the JBL Flip 4 Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker is excellent. Although it does not perform differently from its predecessor, we still liked it because the Flip 3 is amazing. There may be minute differences in the highs, but the JBL Flip 4 Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker is pretty much as awesome as the Flip 3. Moreover, the new model addressed the past issue of slight distortion at maximum volume. Hence, we enjoyed every track on it even when the volume is put on the highest level.
The mids are still detailed and loud on the JBL Flip 4 Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker. Although background instruments may be pushed a bit on the side, that is not a deal breaker for us because essentially, background instruments should just really be in the background and not overpower the foreground sounds.
The bass has become a tad powerful on the JBL Flip 4 Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker. Hence, playing loud basses is more fun on the new speaker. For added bass power, we just placed the JBL Flip 4 Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker near a wall so the sound reverberates on it.
The only downside that we experienced with the JBL Flip 4 Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker is the connection compatibility with older Flip models. On the Flip 3, the Connect+ can link up to two speakers for a louder audio output. We were amazed when we learned that the Flip 4 can connect up to 100 speakers. Unfortunately, the Connect+ feature on the JBL Flip 4 Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker does not support backward compatibility. Hence, JBL speakers with no Connect+ cannot be linked together using this feature. Maybe this will get addressed in the next software update. If that happens, the JBL Flip 4 Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker may be close to perfection.
Portable waterproof speaker that can connect 100 speakers
- Amazing design
- Topnotch sound quality
- Not expensive
- Connect+ has no backward compatibility
- Short battery life
3. Ultimate Ears Wonderboom
The Ultimate Ears Wonderboom is one of the cheapest waterproof speakers that we have tried. This tiny speaker is the latest waterproof speaker from Ultimate Ears. Aside from sporting a waterproof feature, it is also a rugged speaker that can survive rough outdoor adventures. So, wild adventurers who want to add a bit of music on their journey can try out the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom.
From its name, this compact speaker is truly a wonder. After spending some time with it, we were amazed at its capability despite its tiny size. Actually, its size is more of an advantage rather than a disadvantage. Since it is small, it can be easily carried anywhere. Bringing it is totally hassle-free even when you plan to take it with you on your extreme adventures.
The Ultimate Ears Wonderboom may not be the most beautiful portable speaker out there but it has its strengths both outside and inside. It is shaped like a pebble that has a soft rubber lining on the top and bottom, which is also a layer of protection for the speaker. It has a rugged fabric hook on top, making it easier to carry with a travel backpack. Although the design is basic, the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom makes up for it with its wide offering of colors. It is available in black, blue, gray, red, lilac, and pink.
The Ultimate Ears Wonderboom has an IPX7 rating, which is why it claims that it is virtually unbreakable. It is waterproof, dust-proof, dirt-proof, and almost break-proof. The speaker can be immersed in up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes and it will survive. Still, we were puzzled with this feature since the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom is virtually buoyant. Therefore, it floats on water.
In terms of sound quality, we were blown away by what the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom can do. It may be tiny but do not let that fool you this little speaker sure packs a punch without any audio distortions. It has a super strong bass, which is why it is really perfect for the rockstar extreme adventurer. Skaters, surfers, mountain climbers, bikers, and other people who are into extreme sports can find that the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom is an audio device blessing.
Although small, the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom can be surprisingly loud and clear. It can fill up an entire space with audio and it outputs an amazing 360-degree sound projection. It is a great speaker even for a house party and we were amazed that it was enough to provide music for the whole living room. Even when used outdoors, the audio from the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom is vivid and detailed.
Bass levels on the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom are pretty defined. It was beefy and loud enough to entertain us. It really provided a lot of life to our party.
Although the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom has lots of strong points, it is not flawless. It lacks details on the mid-range. It is particularly great for classic and metal music. Still, since it was an entry-level speaker, we feel that this is forgivable.
In terms of battery life, the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom can last up to 10 solid music hours. This is pretty long for a portable speaker of its size and we think that is really amazing.
Tiny waterproof speaker that is seriously amazing in sound quality
- Not expensive
- Long battery life
- Mid-range lacks details
- Noticeable distortion at times
4. JBL Charge 3
Coming from one of the most respected audio technology brands in the market, we expected nothing less from the JBL Charge 3 and we were happy we tried it. The JBL Charge 3 is a great waterproof speaker and more on that later. What is more amazing about this speaker is that it doubles as a charging hub for your smartphone, thanks to its huge battery capacity.
The JBL Charge 3 is equipped with heavy-duty waterproof capability. It has a cylindrical body with a part of the cylinder flattened and this serves as the speaker’s base. Without this flattened part, the speaker will roll away when left on its own. It has a row of buttons on the top, which provides quick access to its controls.
JBL claims that the Charge 3 can link up to 500 speakers but due to logistic limitations, we were not able to personally test it. Anyway, that is a lot of speakers and that can probably fill up a whole auditorium. For personal use, one is enough. For bigger parties, two to three units might do.
The JBL Charge 3 carries a massive 6000 mAh battery. On its own, the speaker can function to up to 20 hours of continuous playback. We think parties last shorter than that and road trips longer than 20 hours will definitely require a pit stop somewhere so it is great that the speaker can double as your battery pack.
Although the JBL Charge 3 comes in cylindrical form, the audio output is one-directional. Even if this is the case, this speaker is impressive in terms of audio output and sound quality. Its audio output is loud, clear, solid, and well-rounded despite it coming only from one direction and that is the front side of the speaker. Its audio output comes with a good balance of sound from the highs to the mids. If in case it may be a bit lackluster, simply turn up the volume and that will do the trick.
The JBL Charge 3 has a bass output that is loud enough without sounding too boomy. With the volume turned up, the woofers on both sides of the speaker get a good workout and perform amazingly well. The mid-range may sound thin at times but the highs compensate well for it as they always come out crisp.
Overall, there is a lot to like about the JBL Charge 3 and very little not to like about it. It is durable and the design looks pretty solid. It has a huge battery capacity and it will be right by your side, playing all your favorite tracks for a long time. Although it has a few flaws in sound quality, each element try to make up what the other element lacks. The entire ensemble is something exciting to have in your collection of waterproof speakers.
Waterproof speaker with huge battery capacity and doubles as your battery pack
- Super long battery life
- Works as a battery pack
- Inconsistent mid-range
5. Ultimate Ears Megaboom
The Ultimate Ears Megaboom is the plus-sized variant of the Boom 2. It is also a newer model that offers more features such as its waterproofing capability and an enhanced audio quality to the already topnotch audio quality of the Boom 2. Although the Ultimate Ears Megaboom is a huge portable speaker, it is minimalist in terms of design and we really liked that. It comes as a clean package and it preserves its cylindrical shape that is truly charming.
Since Ultimate Ears knows that it already made an iconic design in cylindrical form, it just retained that on the Ultimate Ears Megaboom. The fabric stitching woven around the whole body of the speaker is iconic of the Boom and all its successors. Although the Megaboom and the Boom 2 has similarities in looks, the Ultimate Ears Megaboom has an IPX7 rating, which means that it is waterproof, dust-proof, and dirt-proof. Hence, it was virtually indestructible. The Ultimate Ears Megaboom is a perfect audio companion even for rugged outdoor adventures.
When we tested the Ultimate Ears Megaboom, we found that it still excels in sound quality similar to its predecessor. The success attained by the Boom and Boom were merely amplified by the Ultimate Ears Megaboom. The massive speaker made the achievements of its predecessors resonate with it. Additionally, it has a longer battery life so it serves its purpose longer than before.
The audio quality of the Ultimate Ears Megaboom is excellent. The bass is powerful without being too loud. It sounds whole and can fill a room without distorting the music. The sound it produces is vivid, clear, and detailed.
The Ultimate Ears Megaboom offers a better omnidirectional audio quality compared to its predecessors. With the speaker turned on, there was no noticeable dead spot, which is the usual issue on most 360-degree speakers. We were truly pleased with the sound quality that the Ultimate Ears Megaboom exhibited.
The Ultimate Ears Megaboom sports a massive battery life that can last up to 20 hours of continuous playback. This is a step above its predecessors.
We tested the Ultimate Ears Megaboom and we were happy with the results. We used it in a tub and it survived splashes here and there. Since it has an IPX7 rating, we submerge it in the tub and it still functions fine after that. With an IPX7 rating, the Ultimate Ears Megaboom is expected to survive getting immersed to up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes or less.
The Ultimate Ears Megaboom is a great upgrade from the Boom 2 and the first Boom series of speakers. Although it is a bit expensive, it offers a ton of features that only a premium portable and waterproof speaker can offer. For those who have money to spare, the Ultimate Ears Megaboom is definitely a great audio investment.
A great upgrade on the Boom series of speakers
- Long battery life
- Huge sound
- Amazing design
- Easy to use
6. The AOMAIS Sport II
The AOMAIS Sport II is a rugged portable waterproof speaker. Amazingly, it is not as expensive as other waterproof Bluetooth speakers in the market, which is why it is a common choice, especially as an entry-level speaker. The AOMAIS Sport II sports a classic boombox-like appearance. Therefore, it has that appeal that it is an on-the-go speaker that a user can bring on outdoor adventures and road trips. The AOMAIS Sport II feels durable and it looks like all of its components were heavily reinforced. We’re pretty sure it can survive in almost any environment.
Even if the AOMAIS Sport II has a retro appeal, it has a contemporary vibe to it. It is relatively smaller compared to the boomboxes that audiophiles of the 1990s are extremely familiar of. Moreover, since it is portable, it has no visible cords or plugs attached to it. Molded on top of the speaker are its control buttons. It also has auxiliary ports that are protected by a rubber cover to ensure that the speaker can survive when splashed with or immersed in water.
The AOMAIS Sport II is really durable. It has an IPX7 rating, which is a standard that is given to devices that are really tough. With this rating, the AOMAIS Sport II can be immersed underwater to up to 1 meter for 30 minutes and it will survive. We did just that and the AOMAIS Sport II made it out alive after swimming in water. Therefore, this portable speaker is a perfect companion when going to the beach or even when you just like a sound buddy in the bathroom while taking a well-deserved dip in the tub.
The IPX7 rating on the AOMAIS Sport II also guarantees that it is protected from dust and dirt. So, we never had to worry when we brought it on rugged adventures that will subject it to a lost of dust, dirt, or mud. After testing the AOMAIS Sport II on almost any environment, we can say that it was pretty much indestructible.
Of course, it does not matter a lot if the AOMAIS Sport II is durable and can withstand anything if it did not provide amazing sound quality. As a huge speaker, the AOMAIS Sport II can really fill up a room with music. Its sound output is very expansive without being distorted even on high volumes. It has the capability of a full-size speaker, which speaks greatly of its appearance. Therefore, the boombox-like look of the AOMAIS Sport II is not just for aesthetic purposes. It was designed like that to take advantage of this look in producing topnotch sound quality.
The AOMAIS Sport II offers up to 5 hours of battery life with continuous use and at full volume. When the volume is decreased to about 60%, its battery life is lengthened to up to 10 hours. This may not be long compared to portable speakers that can offer up to 20 hours or more of playback time, but this is still sufficient enough for most users.
Overall, the AOMAIS Sport II is a great speaker. It does not have the mainstream popularity yet but it can perform at par with other mainstream waterproof speakers. Moreover, it is durable and tough that it can survive any adventure you bring it to. It may have a few flaws here and there but it is an inexpensive and capable speaker, nonetheless.
A capable waterproof speaker that is within the budget
- Huge sound
- Amazing design
- Not expensive
- Short battery life
7. JBL Clip 2 Waterproof Bluetooth S
The JBL Clip 2 Waterproof Bluetooth S is the follow-up on the Clip series of portable waterproof Bluetooth speakers from this famous brand. It looks greatly similar to the old Clip speaker but the similarity between the two ends there. The JBL Clip 2 Waterproof Bluetooth S is built with entirely new materials. The previous Clip has an all-plastic build while the new version is a mix of plastic, fabric, and metal. Moreover, the JBL Clip 2 Waterproof Bluetooth S boasts an IPX7 rating, which means that it is waterproof, dust-proof, and dirt-proof.
To test it out, we dropped the JBL Clip 2 Waterproof Bluetooth S on the bathtub. It still performed as if nothing happened. It was even able to produce decent sound even when it was submerged under water. Therefore, we can say that the JBL Clip 2 Waterproof Bluetooth S is the perfect beach companion. It is also a reliable bathroom speaker that can survive splashes from the shower and even swimming in the tub.
The JBL Clip 2 Waterproof Bluetooth S also comes with an improved battery capacity. The new Clip model offers up to 8 hours of continuous playback. Most portable speakers of its size can only provide 5 to 6 hours of battery. Apparently, this is a major upgrade on the Clip lineup. With longer battery life, we enjoyed more music with it. This also enhances its portability since we were able to use it for long hours outdoors.
Listening to the JBL Clip 2 Waterproof Bluetooth S was amazing. Like most JBL speakers, the sound quality of the Clip 2 is excellent. There was a huge push on the mids and the sound output was pretty solid. The lows sometimes pose as a bass but that was acceptable for us. The highs came with utmost clarity. Overall, the JBL Clip 2 Waterproof Bluetooth S hits all the sweet spots with negligible nuances.
One thing we liked on the JBL Clip 2 Waterproof Bluetooth S is that it can literally be clipped on almost anything. We clipped it on our bags when traveling. We were even able to clip it to our belt loops. The JBL Clip 2 Waterproof Bluetooth S has a built-in carabiner that allowed us to this with great ease.
The JBL Clip 2 Waterproof Bluetooth S is an amazing portable speaker. It is very handy and easy to carry hands-free with it clip option. Although every sound level was not outstanding, they blended well together to produce an amazing symphony. We were able to enjoy music even outdoors with the JBL Clip 2 Waterproof Bluetooth S. We would gladly bring it anywhere we go just to add a beat to our activities.
